Connecting Perspectives: A Cross-Border Art Initiative

May 6, 2021 — In partnership with The Social Distancing Festival and Canada’s diplomatic missions in U.S., we are thrilled to launch Connecting Perspectives, a series of 13 interdisciplinary artworks created by 26 artists in Canada and the U.S. Drawing inspiration from the theme “Art Today,” the artists were paired and funded to create new collaborative art. These are their inspiring works.

This project would not have been possible without the extraordinary work of our partners, Tawhida Tanya Evanson, poet, author, artist and Spoken Word Program Director at Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity, and Nick Green, award-winning playwright and the creator of The Social Distancing Festival. Thank you both for your time, expertise, and for making this cross-border initiative a reality! A special thank you to the four jurists who reviewed nearly 400 submissions, all of the amazing artists who applied, and the 26 artists who collaborated across borders to create these powerful and moving pieces of art.

Presented by the Consulate General of Canada in New York: Dancers/choreographers Neil Totton (New York) and Isaac Abriel (Halifax) created a short dance film “Wait For Today” set to original music composed by Neil. The film explores the role of age as it relates to our artistic practices expressed through dance and text. Watch here.
