Pride 2023: Canada’s commitment to protecting 2SLGBTQI+ rights

Canada advocates strongly in support of the rights of LGBTI persons, both at home and abroad. No matter who you are or who you love, you should have every opportunity to succeed in Canada. The Government of Canada has taken historic action in recent years to build a better, more inclusive future for Two-Spirit, lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersex, and additional sexually and gender diverse people (2SLGBTQI+), and we know there is more to be done.

Canada’s first Federal 2SLGBTQI+ Action Plan is a whole-of-government approach to achieve a future where everyone in Canada is truly free to be who they are and love who they love. Canada also stands up for the protection and promotion of the human rights of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, 2-spirit and intersex (LGBTQ2I) people globally.

Here, Charles Béraud (he/him), Director of Outreach and Engagement for the 2SLGBTQI+ Secretariat within Women and Gender Equality Canada, explains how the Action Plan furthers Canada’s commitment to Human Rights at home and abroad.
