June Newsletter Preview: National Indigenous People’s Day Highlight
Haa’yuups is of the Hupacasath First nation in the Alberni Valley on Vancouver Island. He helped to restore The American Museum of Natural History’s Northwest Coast Hall. Alongside consultant curators from the Coast Salish, Gitxsan, Haida, Haíłzaqv, Kwakwaka’wakw, Nuu-chah-nulth, Nuxalk, Tlingit and Tsimshian communities, Haa’yuups worked to create a space that aims to contextualize the artifacts in the history of colonialism, recognizing the need for reconciliation and focus on Indigenous stories.
